Casually Elegant Hairstyles for The Summer’s Steamiest Days

Summer is the time for festive outdoor occasions, garden parties, evening strolls, and patio dates with that special someone. Unfortunately, the hot and humid summer weather isn’t always conducive to the perfect hair day, and many styles that dazzle at parties throughout the rest of the year must be packed away until fall in favor of some seasonal innovation. Before you resort to your standard buns and ponytails, take a look at a few of our favorite summer looks for 2013 that can be easily personalized to reflect your style and will keep you feeling refined and gorgeous on special occasions held on the stickiest days of the year.

Pinned-up Perfection

A few artfully placed bobby-pins can create a romantic and feminine vibe and keep the heat away from your neck and face. The best part is this style is adaptable for nearly any length of hair or attitude. Women with shorter hair may opt for twists and curls (like actress Cobie Smulders below), or dramatic, edgy angles, while women with longer hair may go for artful, tendril-filled up-dos that embrace a casual glamour or create a low, cascade of hair swept around to one side of the face and pinned in place at the base of the head.

Braids

This classic style has made a comeback this season in many forms from a single, thick, long braid down the back, pulled over the shoulder (like Eva Longoria, below or Blake Lively, above), or starting from the face and working back or across the head. Braids work for a variety of textures, and done right can keep the humidity from noticeably flattening or frizzing your locks.

Faux Bob

Even ladies with long hair can keep cooler this summer and try out a new hair length at the same time with this contemporary spin on the bob. Your stylist can help roll and pin your hair to ensure a uniform appearance around your head and emphasize a more natural, rather than overly-styled look like the one seen on Amy Adams in this photo.

Half-up, Half-down

Another traditional fashion that has been revived this summer is the half-up, half-down combination, perfect for the days you want to keep your hair out of the summer breeze, but still want to show off the free-flowing texture of your tresses. This season’s array of hair accessories will keep your hair looking fashionable and current (no scrunchies, please) and show off your personal sense of style.

Next time you have an outdoor event, work with the weather and choose a chic summer style that makes a statement and will keep you looking fresh no matter what nature throws your way.
