Bangs: Timeless, Young and Versatile

This season’s hair trends are all about revivals and evolution. Bangs, or fringes, have been a timeless staple in the repository of American and international hairstyles.  From Louise Brooks to Kate Moss, the fringe has been constantly changing texture and shape throughout the decades.  The resurgence of the fringe this season is bringing new life to some current popular hairstyles.

A Simple Makeover

Bangs are a great way to shake up your current look without a lot of effort.  Incorporating a fringe into your existing hairstyle is one of the easiest ways to give it a more sophisticated and modern look.

This season, we’re seeing this trendy cut on some of the hottest celebs, from Hollywood actress Olivia Wilde to pop sensation Rihanna.  The newest bangs range from long and blunt to side-swept and wispy. But what’s so great about the fringe is that they’re completely versatile and can be customized to look good on almost anyone’s face.

Bringing Back the Youth

The fringe has come a long way since the days you were learning to ride a bike. Bangs look great on all ages and many will agree that it’s a style that retains a highly coveted youthful essence. The fringe is playful, sexy, and flirtatious.

Any woman can wear it well, but for women over 35, this simple update can possibly take 5 to 10 years off of her physical appearance. Side-swept bangs fit well on women in this age group.  Reese Witherspoon is a perfect example.  A good fringe really helps exude a fun and youthful vibe. And as another added bonus, bangs can create an instant fullness toward the front of your head, where women tend to lose hair.  Thicker bangs with soft ends achieve this effect well.

Bangs in the Works

Bangs are the latest trend, but they also work hard to accentuate certain facial features and hide any flaws.

Bangs can complement your eyes very effectively.  As a result of the framing effect that a fringe offers, your eyes will be the center of attention. And if you are looking to hide a broad forehead, bangs will help cover and break down the area.  Bangs can also hide age lines pretty well.

Deciding on the change is the first step, but the more exciting question is what kind of fringe will work best on you. Regardless of where the desire comes from, bangs seem to be the one hairstyle that many women just can’t seem to get enough of and always want to try again. See the slideshow below for some tips and images to inspire and help you find the right look for your face shape and lifestyle.
