Happy Valentine’s Day!

Often times, we are so caught up in a whirlwind of work that we lose focus on the things that really matter. We believe Valentine’s Day is a time to take a breather and celebrate the relationships we have with others in as many ways as possible. It’s a day to remember, and a day to cherish.

The origins of Valentine’s Day and its involvement with romance are steeped in legend, but the clear beginning is rooted in the feast day from Saint Valentine, the patron saint of love. The tradition of having a “valentine” is said to have originated from Valentine himself when he signed a love letter “From your Valentine.”

There have been many other mentions of love and Valentine’s Day throughout history, one of our favorites coming from Geoffrey Chaucer’s Parlement of Foules in 1382. The poem, written to honor the first anniversary of the engagement of King Richard II of England to Anne of Bohemia, contained many references of love, but this one has stood the test of time. As translated, Chaucer wrote: “For this was Saint Valentine’s Day, when every bird cometh there to choose his mate.”
